Get to know Coach Visnu Maharaj, CFSC Boys U15-U19 High Performance Director

Which of the Cleveland Force SC core values resonates with you the most and why?

"All values are equally important to me as a CFSC Coach and Program Director. However, if I had to pick one, it would be ‘Commitment.” Why commitment? When trying to establish a team / club culture, I find it very beneficial to start with the ‘Commitment’ value day in and day out with everything we do on and off the field. If the commitment is in place as a starting point, the rest of the Core Values: Humility, Integrity, Respect, and Passion- will be easier to accomplish."

What drives you to coach?

"The ability to influence and shape today's youth in a positive way through the game of soccer as well as transforming my life and playing experiences into value for others. I consider myself a highly value-driven person and any time that is in place in the soccer environment of which I am a part, the soccer piece usually takes care of itself. Yes, I like to win as much as our players and parents like to win. Yes, I want to help the players with whom I work become better players and accomplish their soccer goals; but, if the life lessons learned through the game of soccer did not positively impact our players upon graduation from our program, then I have then failed as a coach."

Why have you chosen to work with Cleveland Force? What are some benefits CFSC has over opposing clubs?

"The value-driven approach of CFSC is one of the main factors I have chosen to work with Cleveland Force SC as well as the influence my former college coach and one of CFSC founding members Ali Kazemaini had on me. Besides the levels of play offered within our club and year-round opportunities for all players; I can confidently say that the people involved - including coaches, administrators, players and families - and their daily approach to improving the soccer landscape in our area is what separates CFSC from the rest."

What’s Next?

"We are looking forward to building off of the success from last year going into this next club season with the support of all of our stakeholders within CFSC. In addition to many new player additions joining our strong core of returning players, we have also added new coaches to our staff. Experienced coaches with different playing and coaching backgrounds who will bring new ideas to our program. I am very eager to resume activities on the field with the club and see how it all comes together."

Besides soccer, what drives you?

"Given my life revolves around soccer, there are not many aspects to talk about outside of soccer… But, I am an avid runner, I enjoy traveling and learning about different ways of life around the world. I have been married for 7 years to my wife Victoria who is a former tennis player. I currently also serve as the Associate Head Coach at Cleveland State Men’s Soccer team."

Special Mention

"I can’t ever give enough credit to our team managers who do a tremendous job day in and day out while always keeping in mind the club’s mission and vision, and most importantly our core values.… I would like to take this opportunity to thank them publicly and let them know that their efforts never go unnoticed and all of us -coaches, players, and families- are very appreciative for pouring so much into CFSC."
