Transitioning to Grade Year Team Formation
Cleveland Force Soccer Club Leadership Team
As we kick off 2026, we want to share some important news regarding the upcoming 2026-2027 season. Starting in August 2026 (with tryouts this coming May), Cleveland Force will transition from Birth Year registration to the Academic Grade Year system.
Why is this happening?
This is a nationwide mandate. Major governing bodies, including US Youth Soccer and US Club Soccer, are moving to an August 1st – July 31st cycle. This change ensures our players remain aligned with national league platforms (such as ECNL and NPL) across the United States.
The Club’s Perspective
Cleveland Force is embracing this shift because it prioritizes the player experience. By aligning soccer with the academic calendar, we can:
- Enhance Social Connections: Players can compete alongside their classmates and friends.
- Simplify the Pathway: This move eliminates the "trapped player" issue during the transition to high school and streamlines the recruiting process for college scouts.
- Maintain Developmental Excellence: While the "classrooms" may change, our training methodology does not. We remain committed to placing every player in the environment that best supports their individual growth.
FAQ Now Available
We know you likely have questions about how this affects your specific athlete. To provide clarity, we have posted a comprehensive FAQ on our website. This resource includes the new age matrix and details on upcoming Town Hall Q&A sessions.
We are committed to making this transition smooth, organized, and positive. Thank you for your continued support and for being a part of the Force family!

Rob Miller
USL Women's Director
USL W League
As we prepare for kickoff of the Cleveland Force SC USL W League season, we continue to evaluate and engage college players from across the region and beyond to further round out our player pool. This ongoing process ensures we maintain a highly competitive roster while providing meaningful opportunities for top collegiate athletes to train and compete at the next level during the summer.
In addition to on-field preparation, the USL W League program is strengthening its connection to the community through joint ventures with local soccer clubs, including youth camps led by our W League players. We are also planning community nights at our home matches, creating an energetic, family-friendly environment that brings players, clubs, and supporters together while showcasing the highest level of women’s soccer in Northeast Ohio.
More details on the schedule, camps, and community events will be shared soon—stay tuned.
USL W Reserves & Futures Program Update
This winter, Cleveland Force Soccer Club continues to strengthen the female player pathway with important progress in our USL W Reserves and USL Futures programs.
In December, we held USL W Reserves tryouts to identify and assemble an elite training pool of U15–U17 players. This group is training together throughout the winter months and will reconvene again in late spring. The purpose of the Reserves program is to bring top players together in a challenging, high-level environment where age is secondary to impact—players are evaluated on decision-making, competitiveness, and influence on the game.
Our USL Futures program also began training in January as an invite-only program featuring selected players from our U12–U14 teams. Futures represents the entry point into the USL pathway, introducing younger players to elevated standards, expectations, and training habits that prepare them for future progression.
Together, the USL Futures and USL W Reserves programs form a critical bridge in our development model, intentionally preparing players for the demands of the USL W League and the highest levels of the Cleveland Force pathway.

High Performance & Competitive Tiers
By: CFSC Directors

Paul Shaw
Sr Director of Coaching & U15-U19 Boys Program Director
Boys U15-U19
Winter is usually a downtime for games but a crucial time for development. This time of the year allows our teams to train indoors in tight spaces which from a developmental perspective forces our players to play quickly and solve problems. These couple of months are crucial as we prepare for a busy spring season where from March onwards we play many games and our training then becomes lighter and more focused on recovery and tactical details.
Training indoor in the winter months allow our older boys u15-19 teams the opportunity to take advantage of gym work. Helping these boys get stronger and quicker at this time of the year is crucial while we play fewer games.
Continuing to educate our families on the importance of the winter in terms of preparing our players is crucial. If we work diligently in the winter then we set ourselves up for success in the spring.

Rob Miller
Girls ECNL Director
Girls ECNL
January and early February have been busy and productive months for our ECNL Girls Program as we continue to build momentum toward spring league play and the peak college recruiting period.
Our 2009 and 2010 teams traveled to Lakewood Ranch, Florida in January to compete in the
ECNL Florida Event—one of the premier national showcase opportunities in the country. The event allowed our players to compete against top-level opposition while being evaluated by college coaches from NCAA Division I, II, and III programs, reinforcing ECNL’s role as a leading platform for player identification and recruitment.
This past weekend, all CFSC ECNL U15-19 Girls teams will headed to Philadelphia to compete in the Penn Fusion Winter Showcase, another key college recruiting event on the ECNL calendar. With hundreds of college coaches in attendance, the showcase provides our athletes valuable exposure in a competitive match environment while continuing preparations for spring ECNL league play, which begins in March.
In addition, our U13 and U14 ECNL teams continue to focus on foundational development and collective team growth as they prepare for spring league play. Training and competition during this phase emphasize technical consistency, tactical understanding, and the application of team principles in game-realistic environments, ensuring our younger ECNL players are well prepared for the demands of league competition and future stages of the ECNL pathway.
Looking ahead to the spring, our focus shifts toward consistent performance in ECNL league play, continued individual development, and intentional preparation for postseason opportunities. Our goal is to ensure that every athlete is prepared to compete at a high level, contribute to team success, and take meaningful steps forward in her long-term soccer pathway.
These events are a critical component of our long-term player pathway—combining high-level competition, meaningful college exposure, and intentional preparation for league play. We are proud of the progress our players and teams continue to make and greatly appreciate the ongoing support of our CFSC families.

Steve Brdarski
Girls ECNL-RL Director
Girls ECNL-RL
The high school ECNL RL program opened its season with all teams competing at the
Bethesda Showcase. Each group played three matches — a valuable stretch of games after a fast start to the year. Both the 2009 and 07/08 teams secured two wins over the weekend, with the 2009s finishing the event undefeated.
The 2011s took valuable lessons from their experience at Bethesda and carried that momentum into the opening week of Ohio Valley ECNL league play. The group played two away matches and earned positive results in both, finishing the weekend with a win and a draw. Strong leadership emerged throughout the roster, with numerous players stepping up and delivering standout moments.
The 2010s nearly matched that success, continuing to elevate their level following their Bethesda performances. Both teams, led by coach Carl Contrasicer, are building in the right direction and are looking ahead with anticipation to the upcoming events on the schedule.
The 2012 and 2013 ECNL RL teams have used the winter months to sharpen their development both on and off the field. Alongside their ongoing mental skills training, the players met with Cleveland Force alumni currently competing at the collegiate level, gaining first hand insight into the journey of becoming a successful student‑athlete.
On the field, both groups continued to push themselves by playing friendlies throughout the winter, consistently competing up an age group and rising to every challenge. With events and league play set to kick off in the coming weeks, the teams are focused and motivated for what’s ahead.
The final highlight of the winter season came as the 2009 and 07/08 teams traveled to compete at the ECNL RL Florida event. Abby Richter led both groups through a weekend filled with meaningful moments to learn, grow, and build lasting memories.
The
07/08 team delivered an outstanding performance, going undefeated across their three matches with two wins and a draw. The group conceded just one goal all weekend and showcased a variety of impressive finishes from multiple players. Both teams drew significant attention from college coaches, generating strong feedback from those in attendance.

The
2009s, in particular, saw remarkable exposure, with more than 75 college coaches attending their opening match and many returning throughout the weekend to watch the group compete.

Winter training is going well, with positive progress across all age groups and teams. We’re seeing noticeable improvements in both technical ability and physical development, thanks to the consistent work being put in each week. The competitive training environment has pushed players to raise their standards, challenge themselves, and continue building habits that will carry into the spring season.
Our teams are gearing up for spring league and several upcoming events including:
Looking forward to seeing these developments show in performances over the spring!

Girls U13-U14 GLA
All six of the GLA girls’ teams are busy training indoors. The teams have been focusing on individual technical work, speed of play and defending themes. The
07/08 girls have played very competitive games at SPIRE and will play another two games in the middle of February. The
09 girls played their 2 weekends at SPIRE, working on team concepts and building for their upcoming league games. The
2010 and
2011 groups have played well at SPIRE and will finish their SPIRE league games by mid- February. The groups will continue to work on team defending, speed of ball and movement without the ball. The
2012’s and
2013’s each have 2 more games at SPIRE before league games start.
The 07/08, 09, 2010 and 2011 teams will be participating in the
Ohio Elite Showcase
at the end of February. It will be a great opportunity to play games outside before league play resumes. The 2012 team will resume league games at the end of February will GLA crossover games in Canton. The 2013’s will resume league play in the beginning of March.

Girls U9-U10 Program Manager
Girls U9-U10 Regional and Local
This winter, our U9–U10 girls program proudly launched the inaugural Force Fusion League, a 7-week in-house competition designed to maximize individual development in a fun, competitive environment. Throughout the season, players competed against one another in fast-paced 3v3 and 4v4 games, with a new weekly focus that emphasized different areas of the game. Points were awarded each week based on performance, effort, and execution of the weekly theme, keeping the girls engaged and motivated from start to finish.
We would like to recognize several standout performances from the league. Congratulations to our Top Dogs, Kelsie Kasparek and Izzy El-Khoury, for their consistency and competitive excellence throughout the season.
We also want to acknowledge our Top 10 finishers, Sophia Sedano, Christine Bertram, Kathryn Wallace, Ava Yurchisin, Olivia Dlouhy, Charlotte Emery, Jocelyn Dilyard and Eva Abel, who demonstrated strong growth and commitment week after week. In addition, our Fusion Award winners, Quinn Gannon and Gianna Ebling, exemplified what this league is all about—effort, leadership, coachability, teamwork, and a positive competitive mindset.

Beyond league play, one of the most exciting developments this winter has been the girls’ dedication to improving their individual craft—especially juggling. Many players have surpassed 100 juggles, and nearly every athlete has shown tremendous improvement over the course of the year. It has been incredibly rewarding to see the girls take ownership of their development and recognize that their hard work outside of training and games truly pays off.
Shout out, to our current leaders 2017 Julianna Westmoreland with 136 juggles and 2016 Piper Robinson with over 300 juggles. We are so proud of this group and excited to continue building on this momentum moving forward.
We would also like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to Coach Leah on her pregnancy and wish her all the best as she prepares to move back home. Coach Leah has been an incredible part of our program, and we are deeply grateful for her dedication, passion, and the positive impact she has had on the girls both on and off the field. Her commitment to player development and creating a supportive environment will be greatly missed, and we wish her nothing but happiness and success in this next chapter.
At the same time, we are excited to officially welcome Coach Lauren Tomasetti, who will be taking over the 2016 Yellow Team. We are thrilled to have her join the Cleveland Force family and look forward to the energy, experience, and leadership she will bring to the group.

.
Looking Back:

- Many of our Boys competed at the Regional Futsal Championships and made us proud!
- 14B Yellow picked up a Win at the Cleveland Indoor Classic!
- All of our teams continue to dominate in the local Indoor Circuits!
- 4 of our teams just returned from Miami after competing in the Prestigious Weston Cup filled with warm weather and some extremely competitive Games.

Looking Forward
The PRE ECNL Matches resume Feb 28th and the rest of the Spring League Games in March. Hoping for some better weather soon!
Cleveland Crunch - Congrats to our Boys HP Staff - Antonio Manfut as Head Coach and Rafael Davlos as a player.
The Crunch have started their Season winning their first 6 games going 6-0!. They have 3 home games left of the regular season so be sure to check that out, especially February 21st for Cleveland Force SC Night at the Wolstein Center!
Spring Game Schedules:
The Match schedules for Spring are being worked on. As soon as they are ready we will get them to your Managers to get uploaded in Playmetrics. Thanks in advance to Kirsten and the Managers. It is a tricky process!
TOCA - Richmond
Please be respectful of the building when we are there. We are guests of the facility. I know for a while we were able to warm up and utilize the TOCA room space but Players are no longer allowed in the TOCA section of the building unless we are in team training on Wednesday nights.
When in the main section of the building please keep siblings and other kids off the field and ensure as players arrive they are simply Juggling and not smashing balls at the walls, insulation or goals. Thanks for respecting the rules of the Building Staff.
Juggle Testing:
Juggle Testing just completed on February 13th! We love to see our players being obsessed with beating their score and constantly striving to increase their score. Whilst the range of scores within the program is vast we are really just looking for improvement from all and some concentrated efforts to improve with the ball on their own. Amazing job to everyone thus far!
Parent Reminders:
- Please update Playmetrics with your availability!!! If you struggle with that just put them all and then just change to red if you're absent!
- Please write a NAME on your child's gray warm up Jacket and soccer ball. The amount we keep fielding as lost / left behind is crazy and we do our best to try and return them to you but without a name that is tough.
Player Reminders: - please share with your sons!
- Please take responsibility for your Training Habits. Work your hardest - EFFORT, Fight your hardest - TENACITY, and look after your belongings.
- No watches should be worn at training.
- Congrats to Ethan Hopkins who leads the way with 3 Months to go. It is great to see the boys still engaged and fueling their love of the game.

Cleveland Force Pre-Club Programming
By: Mike Surniak - Pre-Club Academy Director
Pre-Club Programming
The winter season represents a period of considerable activity for all pre-club programming. This winter, we have already accommodated over
275 players, aged 5-12, within the Cleveland Force In-house leagues. These leagues are designed to offer an environment where players can gain initial exposure to the sport. All games are coached weekly by members of the Academy staff.
The substantial participation in the league serves as an excellent foundation for the player pathway at Cleveland Force. The program is proud to announce that it has
successfully transitioned more than 10 players into either the Pre-Club Academy or the Club teams.
Furthermore, the In-house leagues have provided a distinct opportunity to lend support to the
GO! - Girls Only, Initiative at The Cleveland Force. The TOCA Rocky River facility is the host location for the GO! Leagues every Saturday morning. Girls aged 5-9 compete in leagues exclusively against each other, with coaching provided by women and oversight led by Coach Cami Weight. This has proven to be a highly positive experience for all participating players, families, and coaches. We are committed to sustaining this valuable program for the foreseeable future.
Pre-Club Academy
The Pre-Club Academy (PCA) is currently thriving, with engaging sessions and teams achieving competitive success each weekend. The Cleveland Force PCA is expanding, now including 58 players. We remain committed to providing a supportive, yet demanding, environment for our youngest players to ensure their continued growth. With this next wave of talent joining the club, the future of the Cleveland Force Soccer Club is bright.
The PCA's structure focuses on placing each player in the most appropriate setting for their individual needs. As a result of this commitment, the program has successfully advanced
five full-time players to the 2018 (U8) 7v7 club teams and 1 training player to the 2018 teams. Congratulations to these players on their hard work and dedication as they embrace this exciting new challenge!
Congratulations
- Molly Sprow - Promoted to 2018 Girls
- Carmen Cmolik - Promoted to Train with 2018 Girls
- Sanad Kanaan - Promoted to 18b East
- Harvey Okapal - Promoted to 18b East
- Caiden Schmidt - Promoted to 18b Yellow West
- Blaze Weber - Promoted to 18b Yellow West
It is a genuine pleasure and privilege to coach the young athletes in our program, especially the talented 2018 players who continually surprise us with their growth. What began in August with only two teams has expanded significantly to four full teams by February 1st, involving more than 40 players.
The progress and performance of these young athletes have been remarkable. During the Winter 1 session, the
2018 Girls Yellow
and the
2018 Boys White teams both won their respective 2017 divisions in the TOCA winter leagues. Beyond the combined 15-0-1 record, the most exciting aspect is the confident style and swagger they display on the field.
The future for these young boys and girls is undoubtedly bright, and we eagerly anticipate the great accomplishments they will achieve this spring!
