Proud Partnerships Announcement
By Bob Sefcik, CFSC Executive Director

Hello Cleveland Force Soccer Club Families!

Happy Spring! It feels really good to escape the Winter indoor season (for the most part) and see our teams training and competing outdoors. Team accomplishments and player accolades keep rolling in, and we could not be more proud of these achievements. We are also thrilled to announce exciting news that will continue to propel our Club forward and further differentiate us in the region.

Cleveland Force Soccer Club has signed on with NEW front of jersey and back of jersey Sponsors for the 23-24 and 24-25 Club Season. Rheem, a residential and commercial HVAC company, has joined us as the front of jersey sponsor and locally owned Cleveland Dental Management, representing 11 Northeast Ohio Locations, has come on as the back of jersey sponsor. These sponsorship dollars will greatly support our growing Financial Aid program. In addition, we continue to develop our new partnership with CLE Sports PT & Performance to provide our athletes with meaningful, direct care as well as ensure our playing environments are always exceeding expectations as it relates to medical need.

We look forward to sharing continued growth plans over the next couple of months with all of you. It is a very exciting time to be a part of our Club family, and celebrating and supporting our athletes is our top priority along the way. Good luck in upcoming Spring matches - see you on the pitch!

CLE Sports PT & Performance: Recovery

By: Carol Mack

Recovery

There are many different methods to recover from training or matches, but there are also many differences in their effectiveness.

Current research shows that quality sleep and nutrition are the two best methods.

Mental relaxation is also important. On-field decision making, reaction time, and communicating with teammates produce what we call a mental load. Recovery is needed for those as well. This can be accomplished with spending time away from social media or meditation.

Hydration is an important part of nutrition. Replacing fluids and/or electrolytes is necessary to support the recovery process and to prepare for the next competition.

For individualized questions about recovery, sign up for a free, 15-minute video session. Schedule an PT injury evaluation here.

Adin Ibrahimovic scored the game winner in the first game. Grant Blake scored to tie the game in extra time in the fourth game before winning in a tie breaker shoot out 3 nil. Griffin Owen saved 3 straight PKS while Jack Roman, Marko Odorcic and Niall McClintock finished their PK attempts!

USL W League, USL Academy Cup & ECNL Girls Update

By Rob Miller

Jefferson Cup:

Our U15, U16, U17 and U19 ECNL Girls all recently competed in the Jefferson Cup Showcase.  Both the U17 and U19 ECNL teams finished as runners up in the Elite brackets.  All teams played well and had the opportunity to play in front of hundreds of college coaches at the event.  The Jefferson Cup has always been a true springboard for our spring season as we have the opportunity to play against some of the best competition in the country just prior to our spring ECNL season to continue our preparations.

USL Academy Cup:

Just days removed from our trip to Richmond for the Jefferson Cup, 15 of our ECNL girls from across three different age groups headed to Tampa for the USL Academy Cup.  This is the first year that we have competed at the USL Academy Cup and we did so as an opportunity to launch our USL Academy season this coming summer, more to follow.

Our “U19” team, comprised of players from our 04-07 ECNL teams kicked off the tournament with a 1-1 tie against Greenville Liberty in the opening game.  We had a number of chances to start the game, including 2 that hit the post, but only managed to finish 1.  The second game was against the tournament favorites NC Courage.  We managed to start the game on the front foot and Frankee Flesher came close to scoring in the 3rd minute as she hammered the crossbar.  Ultimately we gave up a goal in the first half that proved to be the difference maker.  We continued to attack in the second half and had a couple of good looks but none that ended up in the back of the net.  We finished group play with a 5-0 win over AC Connecticut and followed that up with a 2-0 win over LA Parish AC.  All in all it was an extremely positive experience for all involved.

USL W League vs USL Academy Summer 2023:

We are introducing (2) new programs this summer: the USL W League and the USL Academy teams.  The main difference between the two programs will be the age groups. The USL Academy team will be a U19 team (birth years 2004 and younger), while the USL W League team will be a U23 team that will be comprised primarily of college-aged players and some that are older.  The purpose of the USL W League and USL Academy is to provide a springboard into a preprofessional platform that will afford our female athletes the opportunity to be seen and compete with like-minded players seeking the next level.  The USL W program allows our college-aged players to continue to train and compete in a top-level environment to help prepare them for their upcoming college seasons.

There will be a direct link between the USL Academy and USL W as we can move players between the rosters.  USL Academy players, based on training and game performance, will have the ability to be rostered with the USL W team for games and practices.  Also, the USL W team will be able to place players with the USL Academy team as there are up to (5) spots per game available to older players than U19.  The teams will share the same training dates and locations at different times.  We will also have joint practices from time to time to continue maximizing the development of our Academy players.

As a result of moving to the USL, we have maximized an “Elite” training and playing environment designed to challenge our top players.  Our ultimate goal is to provide a clear pathway to a top college and potentially place players at the professional level.

U13 - U19 Girls High Performance ECNL-Regional & GLA Update

 By Matt Safar

The teams in the ECNL-RL and GLA are excited that the Spring season has begun. We have been busy diving back into league games and wrapping up college Showcase play, for some of our older teams.

Closing out February, the ECNL-RL teams attended the Ohio Elite in Cincinnati. All of the teams saw some success with both the 07 and 08 ECNL-R teams picking up a win apiece and the 04/05 and 06 ECNL-RL teams finishing 3-0.

Recently we attended Jefferson Cup in Richmond Virginia. This was an excellent opportunity for our teams to play against some of the best teams in the country and be seen by college coaches from all over. Our ECNL-RL 04/05 Girls were able to finish 3-0 on the weekend, while the 07 ECNL-RL team finished the event with a win and some positive momentum to carry into league play.

ECNL-RL league play, in the Ohio Valley Conference, has started back up and the 06 ECNL-RL are off to a hot start, at 9-0!!! As they defend their OVC title from last year, they have their sights set on attending the Regional Finals this June in St. Charles, Missouri.

A unique opportunity was presented to several of our ECNL-RL players recently as we were invited to play against Edinboro University in a Spring scrimmage. We selected a team of players from the 07, 06 and 04/05 ECNL-RL rosters and travelled to Edinboro for a friendly. It was a great chance for our girls to see how they could compete against Division 2 college players. The game ended in a score of 0-0. We truly appreciate Edinboro for giving our players this opportunity!

Our 2009 and 2010 ECNL-RL girls recently travelled to Indiana for the IFA Turf Classic. The 2010 girls saw growth through the weekend and picked up a win for their efforts. The 2009 ECNL-RL battled through the elements and finished 4-0, winning the Final by way of PK shootout and only conceding one goal throughout the event! Both of these teams are preparing for the Nike Cup in Columbus in April where they hope to see continued success.

In GLA news our 04/05 South team finished 3-0 at the Ohio Elite Showcase! Additionally, they have some exciting news as Goalkeeper Alondra Iriarte has been selected to play with the U20 Puerto Rico Women's National team! We wish her well on a bright future.

Our GLA 04/05 Blue team started the Spring season with two wins in the GLA Crossover Showcase. They hope to build off of their success from last year and are currently prepping for the Crossroads of America Showcase at the end of April.

The GLA 07/08 team has two showcase events coming up. The Great Lakes Spring College Showcase and the Crossroads of America Showcase in Indiana. The team is working hard to prepare for these events and learn what the showcase environment looks like.

As we settle into the Spring, it will most certainly fly by, as all seasons seem to do. We hope all of our players and families enjoy their experience these next few months!

U13 & U14 High Performance Program

U13 USL Academy team: 1-2-1 (3 goals against in 4 matches) Played well against teams from around the country. Great experience for the players and families. Adam Sealfon was fantastic the whole event. Could see the whole team grow over the 4 games. ECNL 2nd place - have games over 2 weekends mid April which will determine potentially advancement.

U13 & U14 ECNL-RL teams have 3 games left in season! Both teams have potential of advancing to the ECNL Regional League Postseason! Keep up the good work boys; you can really see the progression of the U13 ECNL-RL team from fall to spring.

U13 ECNL & U14 Congratulations to the 2010 ECNL Boys taking home the championship for the U13 Red Division at the Blue Chip Showcase in Cincinnati, OH this past weekend!

Good luck to both teams as they head to Rockhill, SC to compete in the ECNL Spring event later this month!

U11 - U12 Boys & Girls High Performance Update

By Everett Palache

The U11 and U12 HP Boys and Girls have grown, literally and figuratively, over the last few months. We want to continue seeing players increase their soccer IQ and technical ability and better understand their training habits moving into the spring. The majority of players have shown improvements in all these areas.

The U12 players are in the stage of learning how to win as we prepare to enter the full ECNL Club Competition, ECNL Regional League, and GLA leagues at U13. The U11 players continue to refine principles and grow as individuals to compete in events and league play in the spring season.

One of our goals is to create an internally competitive environment so players are better prepared for the demands of the game at high levels and the 11v11 game format. The coaching staff has been working hard to evaluate players in the high-performance classroom and scout/assess players in the competitive program. We are pleased with the process and growth of both programs. Starting this spring, we will have several players promoted from the competitive program to the high-performance program and begin competing in the PRE ECNL and GLA leagues this spring. The competitive program Director Benjamin Gunter and his staff have done an outstanding job preparing players for training and games with higher game resistance.

Lastly, I traveled to England (London and Manchester) with the US Club ID2 National Selection team. This experience continued to grow my perspective of the top players around the country. My biggest takeaway is that we still have room to grow in how our players approach training, receive feedback, and position flexibility. Many of the players on the England trip played "out of position" from what they played in their clubs, which all players have to be willing to do if they want to play and be successful at the top level domestically and abroad. I am passionate about creating this culture in Cleveland and feel blessed to have had this experience.

We continue to improve, and our U11 and U12 High-Performance program focuses on creating a training environment to prepare individual players and teams to play at their highest potential. I look forward to implementing new approaches to player development I have taken away from ID2 and my education role with US Soccer. As always, thank you for your continued support and passion!
