 Review of The Club

From Everett Palache, CFSC Sporting Director

We hope this message finds you well!

We had a great fall of training and memories. As we end the fall 22/23 Season, let's keep in mind that our CFSC members make up an ecosystem of families/players working in conjunction with each other and interacting as a system to create a safe, fun, and educational experience for the boys and girls of the club.

As a result of your cooperation (#CHIRP), we have done a tremendous job providing our children with soccer and life experiences unique to our club. This fall, we have seen many teams travel locally and across the region to create an experience on and off the field. We have seen players selected for National Selection games in the ECNL. We have also completed the player pathway to the pre-professional level for male and female players (USL 2, USL Academy, and W League). Off the field, we have seen fundraisers and sponsorship become more a part of the Cleveland Force as we work together to provide opportunities to all players. We are becoming more inclusive every day and are excited to continue creating solutions so more players can experience the game we love.

To continue to create these experiences, we must continue to "do our part" to help manage our CFSC ecosystem. Our commitment to the process and each other will help provide experiences that will positively impact our children for a lifetime. That said, sideline behavior and our culture are always a priority. Please take a look at the member handbook, which can be found in the PlayMetrics resource section, to learn more about the expectations of parents, players, and coaches. We have seen significant improvement in this area of our club. Families are taking responsibility to be ambassadors of "good sideline" behavior, which is being noticed by others. For this, I say, "Thank You!"

We want to share the "5 Rules" again for CFSC players in the hope that you will continue to support our effort to create an unparalleled "high performance" development environment. Our experiences have taught us that these are vital components to long-term success on and off the field (#CHIRP).

1. Give 100% to whatever you do (Commitment)

2. Welcome feedback (Humility)

3. Try to be on time, but if late, run (Integrity)

4. Listen with eyes and ears (Respect)

5. Work Hard (Passion)

Thanks for taking the time to read through the newsletter! With the holidays upon us and all that goes with this time of year, we truly appreciate you investing in your child's soccer development on and off the field!

We look forward to an even more positive sports experience in 2023!

Congratulations to all of our Cleveland Force players who received 2022 Fall Season Honors with their high school programs! There were 144 CFSC athletes who received honors!

  • 2 All-American
  • 19 All-Ohio, 1 Player of the Year
  • 123 All-District, 4 Players of the Year

USL 2, USL Academy & ECNL Boys Update

By Bill Lawrence

USL Academy:

Our USL Academy team did a fantastic job in the 2022 USL Academy Showcase Division in Tampa. They finished 2-1-1 with 2 shutouts. Three of our players have been highlighted as players to watch for Sporting KC, New York Redbulls and Columbus Crew.

USL League Two:

Kyle Folds had a fantastic season at center back for Cleveland State this fall as they won the Horizon league, the league tournament and made the national tournament.  He was an Iron man, playing in a brace in the last several games. We wish him the best on his surgery and recovery.

Boys ECNL:

Our Boys 04/05, 06, 07 & 08 ECNL teams travelled to the South Carolina showcase and represented our club well! Alex Hoover played in the ECNL National Selection Game and made some big tackles and quality passes in a game that was truly the showcase of the ECNL's very best.

Our team's didn't always get the results they wanted, but were complemented for the quality of play, especially the 06s and 07s.

The U19s went 2-1 and the 08s went 1-1-1. There is no reason to think they won't return to the playoffs in June.

U13 - U19 Girls High Performance - ECNL Update

By Rob Miller

The ECNL Girl’s program (U13-U19) saw our younger players winding down their fall season while the HS aged kids are just getting started.  The U13 and U14 teams capped off a successful fall season and will now concentrate on training and 11v11 friendlies as we prepare to kick start our spring ECNL season in March.  The U15-U19 ECNL girls have league games through the holidays and a number of different showcase events.  Our U16-U19 teams just finished up the ECNL Tennessee event last weekend in Nashville and our U16 and U17 teams will now turn their attention to preparing for the ECNL Florida Showcase in early January.  All teams will concentrate on training and 11v11 friendlies as we get ready for the spring season.

U13 - U19 Girls High Performance ECNL-Regional & GLA Update

By Matt Safar

As we enter the Winter months we are excited to welcome back our players from their High School seasons. Additionally, we have been fortunate to bolster our rosters, with new players, energized to be a part of Cleveland Force.

Our 2008, 2007, 2006 and 2004/05 ECNL-R Girls have started league play and will be preparing through the Winter months for various events leading into the Spring.

The 07s, 06s and 04/05s will all be attending the ECNL-R Showcase in Sanford, FL in January. We're focusing on assisting our players to gain the necessary exposure they need to play collegiately. Events like the Showcase in Sanford are an excellent environment to be seen by schools from all areas.

Our 2009 and 2010 ECNL-R teams have closed out their Fall seasons and are focused on training through the Winter, as well as competing  in 11v11 games. We're excited the direction they're headed as we continue to see progress in preparation for the Spring.

We have some exciting things happening in the GLA environment as well. Our 07/08 team is currently training and competing  in 11v11 games to prepare for the Spring. We also have two 04/05 Girls GLA teams. Both of these teams are training for Winter Showcase events where we hope to get our players some additional exposure as they pursue their goal of playing at the next level.

A new year means new opportunities. We look forward to what those may be for our teams and players.

U13-U19 Boys High Performance Regional Update

Introducing our new coaching assignments:

Denzil Antonio

04/05B GLA

Jeff Tidd

08B & 06B GLA

Nick Taljan

08B & 07B ECNL-RL

Visnu Maharaj

06B & 04/05B ECNL-RL

Our 06B GLA team opened the GLA season with a strong performance over local rival Croatia Jrs. winning 4-0.

Our HS Boys ECNL-RL teams played their first league games at WNY Flash and WNY Flash-Erie combined record of 2W-2L-3T. All hard-fought games. Our staff was pleased with the performances and our style of play was present more often than not which is where we want to be this early in the season.

Our 04/05B & 06B ECNL-RL teams will attend the ECNL-RL Florida Showcase in January, and the 07B & 08B ECNL-RL teams will attend the Charlotte Independence Showcase early February; both events will provide high levels of competition and exposure to college coaches.

Captain selection; our coaches will be selecting our team captains for the rest of the season in the next several days. The established Guiding Principles of CFSC Captains will assist our coaches in selecting the player who is best prepared for the role and displays the Guiding Principles on a daily basis on and off the field.

U11 - U12 Boys & Girls High Performance Update

By Everett Palache

We have lived our values by creating more opportunities for players to show their commitment, humility, integrity, respect, and passion. The U11 - U12 High-Performance Boys and Girls have achieved a few milestones this fall season. These milestones are possible because of our player's commitment to training and playing in various league platforms that challenge our players. All while creating positive learning experiences and memories for the players/families.

For example, we have boys playing with girls and girls playing with boys. Usually, girls can support a boy's team, but it is not the other way around. This season we have girls' HP teams playing in the boys league, and boys have played on a primarily all-girls roster. Training and playing together is awesome as we continue to find ways to teach humility and respect. We cannot offer this to every player because it is not always appropriate for the individual. But we can maintain our commitment to our mission, vision, and player-centered philosophy.

Thanks, everyone, for the fan support this fall! We have seen a few games with horns and noise makers and feel this is a step in the right direction in providing an energetic and fun environment for the players. We had a few games where families clapped when the "team built out from the back under pressure." Also, the 9v9 HP teams have decreased "goals against average (GA)" from last year. With these as our goals at the start of the year, we are excited about the progress!

Starting last January, we began the Super Y League selection process for our training pool and, eventually, the rosters representing us in games. The Super Y League is a training program where we select players from two age pools to represent the club in a summer league and, if successful, in the Super Y League National Finals held in Tampa, Florida. Our 2012/2011 girls Super Y pool/team made it to the semi-finals in December. This achievement is not possible without all those who participated in the program. Thanks, everyone, and I look forward to starting the process again this January.

In closing, this has been a great start to the 2022/23 season, and we are excited to see the continued growth of the players in 2023.

U13 - U19 Competitive Tier Update

By Denzil Antonio

The Competitive Tier is the foundation of the club as many players that come to the club at the younger ages, will come on board to discover the structure and quality of the club. We strive to provide all Competitive Tier players with the type of soccer education that will make them become lovers of the sport and play the game well into the later stages of their lives.

Player pathways are readily visible as players pass through various stages of development:

  1. Age appropriate training pools
  2. Age plus training pools (younger players playing in older age groups)
  3. Training pool crossing (Girls training with boys, younger boys training with older girls)
  4. Training with High Performance Tier pools
  5. Promotion into the High Performance Tier with a permanent training and game pool placement

Once again, we see players progressing to stages 4 and 5 and we want to recognize these players on their accomplishments.

Fall 22 Stage 4 and 5 placements:

We wish these players all the best as they move into their new environment and look forward to seeing them play in the games of the teams that have been promoted to.

U11-12 Boys & Girls Competitive Tier Update

By Ben Gunter

Greetings,

A lot has changed just in this past year. This Fall 2022, I was appointed as the new Director of the U11/U12 - Girls & Boys Competitive Tier. Within this short time we saw our organization continue to grow as we embarked into our South Region, bringing with it new families to join our ecosystem. We also conducted more tryouts over this time, and added new players to our other regions (East & West).

Concluding the Fall season we now have 120+ players within our U11 & U12 Competitive Tiers. This growth will allow us to really look at our Player Pools and make sure all our players are in the correct classrooms to continue to foster their development. Over the Fall we also added to our Coaching Staff bringing on Coach Samantha Farmer, Coach Mike Mey & Coach Abby Richter in addition to Coach Rafael Davalos and myself. As we continue to grow we are still bringing in and developing new Coaches.

During the remaining Winter season we will continue to look at ways to foster growth and development for our players through our various classrooms to help us prepare for the Spring Season.
